Roots Expert Spotlight: Meet Janet Thomson, Acupuncturist and Herbalist

At Little Seeds, we believe that every child deserves support that meets them where they are—and every parent deserves to feel empowered along the way. Our Roots Expert Spotlight series introduces the professionals we trust to help families navigate pregnancy, postpartum, and the early years with confidence and connection.

Today, we’re excited to introduce Janet Thomson, founder of Inspire Family Acupunture, an acupuncturist and herbalist who supports children and women through every season of health.

A Little About Janet and Her Work

Janet is an acupuncturist and herbalist specializing in pediatric care and women’s health.

For kids, that means helping with a little bit of everything: digestive problems, stress and anxiety, eczema, muscle pains, bedwetting, sleep concerns, low immune function, and more.

For women in the Bay Area, her work includes support with fertility and pregnancy, perimenopause and cycle health, sleep, anxiety, stress, fatigue, digestive concerns, and beyond.

What Drew Her to This Work

For Janet, this work is truly personal. She’s the lucky mama of two IVF children. Her fertility journey, along with some pregnancy complications and minor difficulties during the postpartum phase, gave her a firsthand understanding of what so many of her patients are going through.

She considers it an honor to be invited to support a mother through the hardest and most precious phases of life.

Family Life in This Season

Janet’s children are still quite young, so this season is all about maximizing family time on the playground, in the backyard, and around the kitchen. And when she can, she steals a quiet moment to read and sip tea.

What Parents Need More Support Around in the Early Days

Looking back, Janet wishes she had said “yes” to every offer of help, especially after her second child. She accepted help from her closest friends, but she now sees that saying yes to people she didn’t know as well would have made those first six months substantially easier.

In that phase, she says, we all need a bit of everything:

  • Help with the child(ren)

  • Help accessing healthy, nourishing foods (not just the simple sugars we crave)

  • Help finding any time to be with a partner or close friends

  • Help getting some personal space, even if it’s only an hour here or there

How She Hopes Families Feel After Working With Her

Janet wants the families she works with to feel heard and cared for, and to leave knowing they have a path forward for their health. Many families often notice changes soon after treatments.

One Small Piece of Advice for New or Expecting Parents

Say yes to all offers of help!

Favorite Ritual During Busy Days

Janet leans on her herbal allies throughout the day. Depending on what the moment calls for, that might be energizing herbs, a calming tincture, a pain-relieving balm, or the scent of an essential oil–based candle.

Tools & Resources She Often Recommends

Her primary recommendation for both kids and adults is simple: get outdoors more. As Janet points out, most of us spend roughly 90% of our time indoors. A little more fresh air can go a long way.

What Support Looks Like in Her Own Life

Right now, support looks like making regular personal care a priority. For Janet, that means acupuncture, massage, chiropractic work, and hypnotherapy when needed.

Something Just for Her

Running and reading are Janet’s two long-time favorite activities. In her words, they make her feel like herself.

Why Community Matters During Pregnancy and Postpartum

Janet believes community is important all the time, but especially in the peripartum period. During those months, even small things going wrong can have a huge impact on mental health and family life. Having people around you makes all the difference.
