Roots Expert Spotlight: Meet Dr. Natalie Robertson of Empower Pelvic Floor PT

At Little Seeds, we believe caring for families also means caring for the bodies that carry, birth, and nurture new life. Our Roots Expert Spotlight series introduces the trusted professionals who support families through pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood with knowledge, compassion, and practical care.

Today we’re excited to introduce Dr. Natalie Robertson, owner of Empower Pelvic Floor PT, who helps women understand and support their bodies during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond.

A Little About Dr. Natalie and Her Work

Dr. Natalie Robertson is a pelvic floor physical therapist dedicated to helping women navigate the physical changes and challenges that can come with pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

Through her practice, Empower Pelvic Floor PT, she provides a safe and supportive space where women can learn about their bodies, understand their symptoms, and build long-term strategies for symptom relief, prevention, and overall wellness.

Her care takes a holistic approach, recognizing that physical health is connected to many aspects of daily life—including movement patterns, bowel and bladder health, sexual function, nervous system regulation, sleep, nutrition, and lifestyle habits.

What Drew Her to This Work

Dr. Natalie was drawn to this field after seeing the huge gap in care for women during pregnancy and postpartum—two of the most physically and emotionally demanding seasons of life.

Too often, new and expecting mothers are left with unanswered questions, lingering pain, or symptoms that are dismissed as “normal.” She knew women deserved better support, clearer education, and practical tools to help them move through pregnancy and postpartum feeling informed and confident.

One of her favorite parts of the work is teaching women how their bodies actually function—and watching how quickly symptoms can improve when women feel empowered to care for themselves.

Small shifts, like improving breathing patterns, incorporating gentle mobility, or supporting the nervous system and digestion, can make a remarkable difference. Helping someone feel like themselves again is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

Family Life in This Season

Natalie currently lives in Walnut Creek with her boyfriend—who she jokingly refers to as her “pre-fiancé”.

She’s focused on growing her practice and building her career, while staying close to family nearby. With siblings who have young children, she gets plenty of opportunities for baby time—reminders of why her work supporting mothers and families matters so deeply.

What Parents Need More Support Around in the Early Days

In Dr. Natalie’s experience, mothers need far more guidance around physical recovery during the early postpartum weeks.

Recovering from a vaginal or cesarean birth is a significant physical process, yet many women receive little information about what’s safe, expected, or helpful in those early days—while simultaneously caring for a newborn with very little sleep.

Better education and support around postpartum healing can make a tremendous difference in how women recover and feel in their bodies.

How She Hopes Families Feel After Working With Her

Dr. Natalie hopes families leave feeling heard, supported, and empowered.

Her goal is for women to understand their bodies, interpret the signals their bodies are sending, and feel confident supporting themselves through different symptoms and stages of life.

One Small Piece of Advice for New or Expecting Parents

Prioritize nervous system regulation.

Our physical symptoms are deeply influenced by how much stress our nervous system carries and how well that stress is managed. Learning how to regulate your nervous system and build resilience can reduce symptom intensity and make physical challenges much easier to navigate.

Favorite Ritual During Busy Days

Sunshine.

Stepping outside for fresh air—even when the sun is hiding—is Natalie’s favorite way to reset her nervous system and calm her mind. She often reminds clients that sunlight is one of the most underrated therapeutic tools available.

A Tool She Often Recommends

Natalie frequently reminds clients that movement is medicine.

Gentle, intentional movement increases blood flow, reduces pain and inflammation, supports digestion, and helps regulate mood and the nervous system. When life or symptoms feel overwhelming, simply focusing on circulation—through walking, stretching, breathing, massage, lymphatic drainage, or a warm bath—can be an accessible starting point.

What Support Looks Like in Her Own Life

Support currently looks like therapy, a deeply encouraging partner, and nearby family.

She credits her therapist for helping her stay grounded, her partner for believing in her as she built her practice, and her family for both practical help and much-needed comedic relief.

Something Just for Her

Natalie is an avid reader with a growing personal library.

Her shelves are filled mostly with historical fiction, along with a little romance and fantasy mixed in. Her perfect day includes reading a book by the pool in the sunshine.

Why Community Matters During Pregnancy and Postpartum

Pregnancy and postpartum can feel isolating—especially given how little knowledge many women receive about their own bodies.

Because every pregnancy and postpartum experience is different, having a supportive community of other parents and trusted professionals can help normalize what someone is going through. When fear is reduced and mental load is lighter, mothers have more space to focus on the joyful parts of parenthood.
